Professor Wilson wrote the book on turbomachinery design. To be fair, he has written close to a dozen books on the subject, and is the recognized international expert in microturbine design. Culminating decades of research, he has co-founded Wilson TurboPower to commercialize his breakthrough inventions.
In addition to his professional work, David is an avid biker and a recognized political activist. David was integral in the development of the first recumbent bicycles and still rides a home-made recumbent bike sixteen miles to work every day. His designs have twice won world bicycle speed records. For decades, he has tried to bring democracy, efficiency, and fairness back into Massachusetts politics. David also is interested in music, goes hiking on the weekends, and enjoys a game of tennis every now and then.
Dave Wilson was born and educated in Warwickshire, England. He first crossed the Atlantic in 1953, working his way into the engine room of a cargo boat on the Glasgow-Montreal run. In 1955 he was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship for study and research at MIT and Harvard. After returning to work in Britain in the gas-turbine industry he taught for two years in Nigeria and worked briefly with the British Peace Corps. For six years before joining the MIT faculty in 1966 he was technical director and vice president of Northern Research and Engineering Corporation in London and in Massachusetts.
